Winter break idea given cold shoulder

Local league committee dismisses fixture shake-up proposal

A MID-season winter break is unlikely to be introduced in the North Devon Gazette Football League.

Following an idea suggested by Pilton Academicals manager Richard Marsh in last week’s Gazette, the league committee discussed the possibility at meeting on Friday but said a break would not allow for inclement weather that may occur during that shortened period.

“The break could contain the best weather we get in the season,” said a spokesperson.

Mr Marsh’s comments about the postponing of games at Rock Park also prompted a response from Devon FA’s area co-ordinator.

Rob Bates said deciding whether to call the pitches unplayable was always a difficult balancing act and there was no perfect solution.
