Win makes U14s trip worthwhile

BARNSTAPLE U14s made the long trip to Topsham worthwhile by winning 39-14 at Bonfire Field.

Barum were 24-0 up at the break, but found Topsham tougher in the second half than the first.

Brad Chapple and Matt Symons scored back-to-back tries to point Barum on their way.

Jimmy Challis crossed in the corner then Symons got a second. Will Knill and Symons kicked first-half conversions.

Topsham mounted a comeback and scored two simple tries using the pace of their backs, both of which were converted.

The last quarter of the game was all Barum. Good work by Challis and Zach Venner-Houlford resulted in a deserved try from Jack Cloke

Matt Giblett and Symons combined to put Shane Sexon. Symons rounded off the scoring with his third try of the game.

BIDEFORD U14s went 7-0 down after only a few minutes against a determined Minehead side.

Bideford regrouped and were 17-7 up at half time, thanks to some hard work by Fraizer Priest.

The second half saw Mike Smith twice get tackled inches from the try line.

Minehead came back at Bideford to score two tries

Minehead took a 19-17 lead with 10 minutes to go which prompted Bideford to up their game again.

Bideford camped on Minehead’s line for the time left, but couldn’t turn pressure into points.

Tries went to Priest (2) and James Ford. Billy Cockwill kicked a conversion.
