White flag?

SIR - There was a report in the Gazette last week that “South Molton traders have accepted that a Tesco supermarket will be built in the town and want to work with the supermarket giant to make the best of the situation”.

Where is the sprit of 1940? The district council must be rubbing its hands with glee to see the South Molton business goose helpfully stuffing itself and climbing in the oven.

Do they think a white flag will have any impact on the Tesco juggernaut that the district council wants to unleash on the town – however vigorously it is waved?
