Where would you like to Go?

North Devon Gazette

Last month saw the launch of Go North Devon’s free taster sessions for its Shopmobility and Ring & Ride services.Â

The scheme runs until March 31 and is open to anyone who has lost their confidence due to frailty, poor health and/or Covid anxiety.

The feedback received from those taking advantage of the scheme has so far been extremely encouraging and the team at Go North Devon are delighted with the positive comments received from those who have already taken part.

One example is Vicky from Torrington, who has been experiencing mobility problems and agoraphobia for the past four years. She said she had been confined to her home and her health deteriorated further as a result.

Vicky explained: “I find it a struggle to stand and wait for the bus and have to wait in the car when I go into town with my husband, as I cannot manage walking around the shops.”

She took part in the Shopmobility free taster scheme and hired a wheelchair for a weekend to Exeter with her husband and was delighted with the experience.Â

Vicky said hiring the wheelchair had given her “the best two days she’d had in a long time!” She added that Shopmobility had, “given her the freedom to be semi-normal and it was great to go out with her husband and not be limited on time.”

The Ring & Ride social trips have also proved popular as part of the free taster session scheme.Â

Since the start of the free sessions, passengers have had an opportunity to enjoy tasty lunches in the picturesque countryside, explore the surrounding towns and countryside and visit new and interesting places including Bickleigh Mill, The Old Well Garden Centre and Merry Harriers Garden Centre.

The free scheme is due to finish on March 31, so if you have not taken advantage of this fantastic offer yet, give the friendly team a call on 01271 328866 to book your session.Â

Don’t miss out on this great opportunity and take back your freedom and independence

The Shopmobility Centre is at Albert Lane in Barnstaple (EX32 8RL), next to the bus station. The bookings and enquiries line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 12.30pm, just call 01271 328866.
