Annual Weare Giffard Art Exhibition makes it two decades of displaying local work

THE annual Weare Giffard Art Exhibition will be celebrating a special milestone this weekend (June 17-19) as it marks its 20th anniversary.

Each year the Weare Giffard Art Group displays the fruits of its labour over the preceding months with their well known exhibition at the Village Hall.

It opens on Friday and runs every day until Sunday, from 10am-5.30pm and 6.30pm on Saturday.

Art group tutor Sheila Scoular started teaching in North Devon some 30 years ago and the group has proved successful, with a regular core of 30 members enjoying the Wednesday morning and afternoon teaching sessions during school term time.

“The exhibition is always very popular and we have people from across the area who come and see us each year, as well as plenty of visitors,” said Sheila.

“This year is extra special and there will be all manner of mediums on display, while most of the paintings will be up for sale.”

The art group courses cover virtually all media and attract a range of people of different ages and walks of life.

“I have some who have been with me for years and others who say they haven’t done any art since they left school,” added Sheila.

“But they all want to do it and I think that is what makes it a success.”
