Volunteers will help elderly in bad weather

Joseph Bulmer

A volunteer service has been set up to help older people in Torridge during spells of extreme bad weather.

“Snow Patrol” is a team of volunteers who will be able to collect and deliver emergency provisions to older people should they be unable to leave their homes during spells of snow or ice.

Torridge has a high number of older residents and spells of bad weather are a real problem for many in the rural areas.

The volunteers will provide support, where possible, for older people who require emergency one-off help, such as shopping (basic supplies such as bread and milk) and prescription collection.

They will not be able to help with clearing snow and ice from driveways, but may be able to carry out some snow clearance in certain circumstances.

The project staff are keen to hear from potential volunteers, particularly in rural areas, who would be willing to help out,

Should you require assistance with emergency shopping or the collection of prescriptions, or if you would like to discuss becoming a Snow Patrol volunteer yourself, contact Anna or Linda on (01805) 622666.
