Unicorns take derby honours over Nomads

SOUTH Molton Unicorns winning streak continued with a 27-14 victory over visiting Bideford Nomads.

Nomads started brightly surprising their hosts with a sparkling opening try from centre Joe Greaves after much hard work from the pack. Shaun Woodhead added the conversion.

The home side soon took the game back to their visitors and dominated for long periods, adding three unanswered tries to lead 15-7 at the interval.

Sloppy Nomads’ handling and tackling allowed Molton to add two further tries in just 10 minutes after the restart.

South Molton tries were scored by Richard Holland, Shane Thorne, Steff Bennett, Steve Ayres and Stuart Kingdon with Jamie Stoneman kicking the conversion.

Nomads dug deep led by the Man of the Match Toby Richards and the lively Mike Powe at nine and hooker Jason Turner. With 10 minutes remaining Nomads broke from defence with Carl Jenkins bursting 50 metres to touch down in the corner.

Mark Westacott added the extras with a stunning kick from the touchline but it was too late to make any real impression.

The final score of 27-14 reflected the home side’s territorial advantage, though the Nomads pack more than held its own.

Ben Warren was South Molton’s Man of The Match.
