U13s find Tivvy tough

BARUM U13s had a tough encounter against near neighbours Tiverton on Sunday.

A 29-7 defeat was the team’s worst result of the season.

The first half was an even contest with both teams winning turn-over ball on a number of occasions. Tiverton were 12-7 up at the break, the Barnstaple try coming following good work by Cameron Eckford at the breakdown on the right hand side which led to a Billy Ashford try. Matt Symons converted.

The second half was a different story, with Barum falling off the first-up tackles too often and lacking intensity at the breakdown. Tiverton used the ball well and grew in confidence as the game went. Barum seemed to lose sight of the game under the pressure.

Tiverton scored three further tries without reply. There were some positives. The counter rucking was excellent at times. The tackling from Man of the Match Spencer Merrifield was superb.
