Two in three say ‘No’ to alternative vote
Voters in North Devon reflect the national picture in Friday’s referendum
VOTERS in North Devon and Torridge have overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to change the way MPs are elected.
Around two in three of those who voted ticket the “No†box in Friday’s referendum on the alternative vote.
In North Devon, 23,637 (69.4 per cent) voted No, compared to 10,446 (30.6 per cent) Yes votes.
In Torridge, 16,363 (70 per cent) voted No, while 7,030 (30 per cent) said Yes.
Nationally, the final result put the Yes vote at 32.1 per cent and the No vote at 67.9 per cent.
