SOUTH Molton skittler Andrew Tapp carried off the Shoot Out singles title at the South West Skittles Championships.

The Shoot Out singles and pairs championships in Torbay featured 550 skittlers and 16 alleys were in constant action.

Andrew, from the Heasley Mill team Headgate Tufters, came out on top in the men’s singles from an entry of 256. After winning through the group stages he finished nine pins ahead of his rivals in a four-man, four-rub final. He started slowly with an eight and a seven, but then produced successive spares of 17 and 16.

He was presented with his trophy and 100 prize money by Brian Pengelly, company director of Shoot Out Club Ltd.

Next day was the turn of the Headgate Tufters in the Blackthorn team championships, which attracted some 850 players and spectators.

Tufters were one of 32 teams to qualify for the finals from 160 entrants in the men’s competition, but were beaten at the first hurdle by Bristol side Hartcliffe, losing 383-352.
