The Little Match Girl by The Last Baguette comes to Torrington, Ilfracombe, Barnstaple and Bideford this December
A heart-warming family Christmas tale will be coming to four North Devon venues this December.
The Little Match Girl by international theatre company The Last Baguette opens in the region at The Plough Arts Centre on Sunday, December 17.
The classic based on Hans Christian Andersen’s winter tale will be showing at Ilfracombe Library on Monday, December 18 and then at Barnstaple Library on December 20 and Bideford Library on December 21.
It is a touching, madcap and heart-warming Christmas show for all the family, using visual storytelling, live music and puppetry to shine a light on Andersen’s much-loved story.
“It is a wonderful story,” said director Susana Alcantud, “it goes right to the heart of what Christmas means.”
In the show we follow Alice, a match seller in Victorian London. We meet her in the morning and follow her throughout her day, as she encounters funny and zany characters on the vibrant city streets.
When Alice is cold, she strikes a match and the stage transforms. We enter the fantastic world of Alice’s imagination, with talking turkeys, dancing rats and Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and their chattering Christmas tree.
