Don’t miss ‘Syria’ at cafe Onboard this Saturday (August 27)
A fundraiser is being held in Bideford to highlight the refugee crisis and raise money for a local charity.
Syria will be hosted by floating venue Café Onboard on Saturday, August 27 from 7pm to midnight, with contemporary Middle-Eastern electronic music and traditional Levantine food.
It has been organised by Jake Slee and Jumoké Fernandez, who say as well as being social and fun, Syria aims to raise awareness of the crisis and what people can do to help.
It is also raising money for Survival Bags – Home and Away, a Barnstaple based charity that sends out bags of essential supplies and luxuries to help people both abroad and closer to home.
Jumoké said they had been moved to help: “The struggle in Aleppo, Syria worsens every day. Hearing about people’s lives being destroyed by unceasing conflict is unbearable. Knowing about such warfare can often leave people feeling powerless but there is always something we can do as individuals, SYRIA was organised to show people just that.”
Tickets for Syria are available at £5 from Survival Bags - Home and Away on Boutport Street, Barnstaple.
