FOR three nights this month, West Mill in Welcombe plays host to one of England's smallest festivals. Run by Briony Lawson, the West Mill Festival will witness nights of poetry, classical music and jazz. Alongside the music by international artists, guests will enjoy meals celebrating the foods of Italy, Greece and West Country. Artists include harpsichordist Maggie Cole, flautist Philippa Davies, actor Joss Ackland and jazz ensemble Footprint. Briony Lawson has been running a small festival at West Mill every second year since 1987. This year's festival runs from July 17-19 and starts with an evening of readings by Joss Ackland with food from the West Country. Tickets start at £20 a head and profits will be shared between Welcombe charities.
