A vocalist described by Cadence Review as "a full-blown jazz singer with a husky, seductive voice," comes to North Devon Jazz Club in The Beaver, Appledore, on Monday of next week, June 30. Her name is Sue Hawker and the same reviewer writes that she "can wade through bop phrasing as boisterously as Annie Ross." As a seasoned performer. Sue has appeared at all the major jazz venues, including Ronnie Scott's Club and Pizza in the Park, as well as numerous major jazz festivals. At this gig she will be accompanied by Guy Gardner on piano, Mark Fletcher on drums and bassist Nick Kacal. The performance starts at 8.30 p.m. and entry is free, although a collection will be taken for the band. Phone (01237) 474822 for a meal booking, and (01237) 421065 for more details about the gig.
