Saunton Road Studios had a surprise visitor on Friday night in the form of a well known singer songwriter and Labour activist

Singer songwriter and activist Billy Bragg paid a surprise visit to Saunton Road Studios in Braunton on Friday.

The veteran performer was there to support North Devon Labour Party's county Council election campaign and played a set list of classics including There is Power in a Union, Between the Wars, Never Buy the Sun, as well as Woody Guthrie's I Ain't Got No Home and encoring with A New England.

He was supported by local musicians Amy Newton and Jim Jones.

Mark Cann, who is standing for Braunton Rural, said: "Billy and I have known one another for many years through Glastonbury Festival so when he offered to come to North Devon to play 'a few tunes' I was delighted to take him up on the offer."

The Devon County Council elections for 60 members will take place on Thursday, May 4.
