Watch a sea rescue, join in family fun days and take part in the grand carnival parade in Westward Ho!

A sea rescue display, sand castle competitions, circus performers and a carnival flag parade will be on offer during a new seaside festival.

Westward Ho! Seaside Festival will begin on Sunday, May 28, with a whole host of free activities from June 1-4.

The festival is the result of the combined effort of local churches, community and voluntary groups.

Over the Whitsun school half term, a range of free and affordable activities for all ages will be on offer.

On May 28, there will be a sea rescue display by the Bideford coastguard team and Appledore RNLI, as well as face-painting, sand castle competitions and displays by all the local community groups.

From June 1-4, the Baptist Church will be hosting a craft expedition; the Holy Trinity Church will be running a pottery workshop; and there will be a rare visit from the Circus Bezercus, who are performing their show A Mismatch In Devon.

Westward Ho! Park will be hosting two family fun days with bouncy castles and face-painting, a charity dog show and a barbecue.

The Village Green and promenade will be a performance space during the festival, featuring Bideford Town Band and Westward Ho! Youth Theatre.

The festival will end with a grand carnival flag parade along the seafront and promenade on Sunday, June 4.
