Evan Christopher’s Django a la Creole brings the music of New Orleans and Django to Torrington.

CELEBRATING the music of the legendary Django Reinhardt is Evan Christopher’s Django a la Creole at The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington on Saturday.

The night is being recorded live for the band’s new album and will see elegant clarinettist Evan joined by guitarists David Blenkhorn and Dave Kelbie plus bassist Sebastien Girardot.

With a strong root in New Orleans jazz, the band not only gives homage to Django but lifts swing era classics with fresh interpretations and virtuosic improvisation.

Evan Christopher’s story is a fascinating one - after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 he left New Orleans with little more than his clarinet and a suitcase full of clothes, destination Paris.

During his artist residency, funded by the French-American Cultural Exchange, he worked to raise awareness about the musical culture of New Orleans through concerts and master classes.

Evan is an activist regarding Hurricane Katrina and will lead a pre-concert 30 minute question and answer session at 7pm.

The show starts at 8pm. For tickets and information call the box office on 01805 624624.
