Relive the bygone era of the Austrian city's festive season in A Viennese Strauss Gala at the Landmark, Ilfracombe, on Saturday, January 26.Now in its fifth year, this charming production will re-create the romance of glamorous soirees and Strauss waltzes with dancers, an orchestra and opera singers. Matthew Freeman, conductor and arranger with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, leads the European Orchestral Ensemble through a programme including Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Lehar's The Merry Widow. These operettas will be beautifully sung by Anthea Kempston and Francis Church, both members of the Scottish Opera company.Cleverly choreographed with dancers in traditional dress, this show gives the audience an authentic feel of a festive Viennese evening, and appeals to the romantic as much as the music aficionado.
