NEARLY 20 years of bi-lingual singing and friendship are set to be celebrated on Friday.
Twin ladies' choirs from Barnstaple and Uelzen, in Germany, will be reunited again at a joint concert taking place at St Peter's Parish Church.
Barnstaple Ladies' Choir and the Barbel Grosse Chor will be performing a varied programme of songs from the shows as well as German folk songs.
"It is going to be an emotional time for us all but we are all so looking forward to a packed concert," said choir member Tina Williams.
Lynne Beer, secretary of Barnstaple Ladies' Choir, said a friendship between the two choirs had existed since 1991.
The two choirs began exchanging letters after being introduced through Barnstaple Twinning Association prior to the first visit by the German choir in September 1992, when both choirs sang at Arlington Court.
"A bond of friendship was formed and exchange visits have continued from then onwards every two years," said Mrs Beer.
"The Barnstaple Ladies Choir visited Uelzen in 2008 with the largest group so far and had a wonderful time; we are now very busy finalising the events for hosting the German Choir this September, which will be their last visit to Barnstaple.
"We are all getting older and in 2012, we will make our final trip to Uelzen; but while the official visits are coming to an end after 20 years, our friendships will never end."
The free concert will start at 7.30pm with a retiring collection on the door.
