Kimbers Men at Shammick Acoustic on Saturday, July 25.

Shanty crew and maritime singers, Kimber’s Men make a long-awaited return Shammick Acoustic in Combe Martin on Saturday.

The gig at the Pack O’ Cards starts at 8pm and will feature a fine mix of multi-faceted folk music including bagpipes and fathomless harmonies.

Kimber’s Men were last at Shammick Acoustic some five years ago and the club is delighted to welcome back this very popular group for another rousing evening of sea songs and shanties.

The group formed in 2001, and the members come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, giving dimensions to this group that other shanty singers simply don’t have.

Neil Kimber and Roger Hepworth have been singing together on the West Yorkshire folk scene since the 60s; Joe Stead has been a professional folk performer for a similar time, and has sung all over the world, including with such luminaries as Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson; Gareth Scott is a fabulous blues singer, and Michael Beeke plays bagpipes.

Giving real depth to the harmonies is John Bromley, a wonderful bass who also sings with the local operatic society in Halifax, and has sung lead bass at Leeds Playhouse in Mozart’s Requiem.

Tickets at the door, from, the Pack O’ Cards or Pets’ Pantry in the village.
