Internationally acclaimed performer Paul Downes will be performing in concert in his native Devon when he appears at Shammick Acoustic in Combe Martin on August Bank Holiday Saturday.Having grown up in Exmouth, his best mates were Steve Knightley and Phil Beer of Show of Hands, and for several years, he toured with Phil as Downes and Beer, before the pair of them formed Arizona Smoke Revue with Bill Zorn, which became world-renowned. Too much so for Paul's laid-back attitude to life, and he decided to be content with working purely in the UK and Europe, much of the time as a session musician on other artists' recordings, for which he is still much in demand.Paul's sensitive and yet fun approach to his live performances puts him among the most respected artists on the British acoustic music scene. He has been introduced (much to his embarrassment) as one of the greatest acoustic guitarists in the world. It is easy to see why when you see the dazzling array of styles he performs with effortless brilliance, but at the same time he considers himself as a singer of songs, rather than a guitar technician. With his rich musical background that has progressed through working with Phil Beer of Show of Hands, The Arizona Smoke Revue, Pete Seeger and, currently, The Joyce Gang and Mick Ryan, he has recorded nine albums with others and three solo albums.A great performance is guaranteed at this rare appearance in North Devon. Paul, with other local performers, will be appearing at Shammick Acoustic Sessions at The Castle Inn, High Street, Combe Martin. The concert starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are £6 at the door, or £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com/event/23514 , or if you're in Combe Martin, you can call in at Pets' Pantry, High Street. For further information about Shammick Acoustic Sessions, please contact Tom or Barbara Brown on 01271 882366 or e-mail them on firstname.lastname@example.org .
