NORTH Devon musicians are getting together to raise money for one of the men injured in the Barnstaple house explosion last week.

Mike Collins suffered serious burns and lost all his belongings, including his saxophones, in the fire at the house in Trinity Street.

Now, some of the region’s best musicians are hosting a series of “open Mike” nights to support him.

Mike, currently in hospital in Swansea, is one of the most in-demand sax players on the North Devon circuit. He has struggled with ill health over the past 10 years.

“This is one way that the musicians of North Devon want to stand together to help raise the awareness of mental health issues and at the same time raise some money to help Mike rebuild his life,” said Jim Jones, one of the organisers.

The gigs will take place on the following dates: Sunday, December 5, The Thatch, Croyde; Monday, December 6, The Reform, Pilton; Tuesday, December 7, The Castle Inn, Landkey; Wednesday, December 8, Cork and Bottle, Barnstaple; Thursday, December 9, Cook Island, Mullacott Cross; Friday, December 10, The Grampus, Lee Bay; Sunday, December 12, The White Lion, Braunton.
