With the sun making a more regular appearance and the nights getting lighter, the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe will once again welcome the arrival of summer with The Landmark Beer Festival, Friday to Monday, May 2-5.With a relaxed atmosphere, free live music, bouncy castles, barbecues and an abundance of local real ale and ciders there is no better place to spend a bank holiday weekend.Kicking off on the Friday, the ska-filled sounds of Zamba are bound to get you right into the festival spirit.Saturday plays host to a selection of the best bands North Devon has to offer including jazz-rock masters the Spinlords of Spintania, The Holts, Pretty Jacks, Cablecar Catastrophe, the hyper sounds of The Tabloid Press and, to finish the day, the electronica-fuelled energy surge that is Eat The TV.Sunday will be the now well established Bands Day, once again supported by SoundPad in Barnstaple. This is the perfect opportunity to get an insight into the newest upcoming talent from the region while enjoying a pint of Fursty Ferret or Cornish Knocker! Finishing off Sunday with their blues rock style are festival newcomers Jay Tamkin and The Crackers. This band are on the up having recently supported The Blockheads. After their appearance in Ilfracombe, they hit the festival circuit including a performance at Glastonbury. Monday, the closing day of the festival, will see the Landmark taken over by the 'green men' of Ilfracombe following the annual May Day Green Man procession. To complement this local tradition, North Devon folk band Babelfish will be playing their locally inspired tunes. They will be followed by another festival newcomer in the form of Douglas E Powell performing an acoustic set. Then, to end the festival on a high note, local favourite Amy Newton makes a welcome return after her sell-out album launch party at the Landmark in 2007.The bar opens at 7pm on Friday evening with music from 9pm till 11pm. Saturday kicks off at 2pm, Sunday at 1pm, and Monday at 2pm.
