A Barnstaple musical duo are celebrating after being signed to a London record company.Baqua - a collaboration between female vocalist Della and guitarist and programmer James Millman, both of Zamba fame - have been described as "delightfully different" by Exceptional Records.Their music blends sample-based electronica and cutting edge dance with real instruments and stunning emotive vocals. The duo have just released their first single called Terrapin Blues, and EP (extended play) download available via the Internet.A large range of influences are present in their work, including broken beat, hip hop and rare groove, plus contemporary jazz improvisation, topped off nicely with Della's sultry vocals. On Thursday, August 21, Baqua will be playing live at The Riverfront Cafe on the Strand in Barnstaple and have made the gig their official launch night. They hope as many people as possible will go along to support them and hear the new material. On Saturday, August 23 they will be playing the Sunwest Festival at the Landmark in Ilfracombe around 3pm."This is a very exciting time for us, as we can promote and perform our own original work, which we hope people will enjoy," they said.
