THE high energy, interactive and fresh Arthurs.Høiby.Ritchie Trio (pictured here) will be coming to the Broomhill Art Hotel at Muddiford near Barnstaple on Wednesday of next week (October 7.)

The jazz threesome of Tom Arthurs, Jasper Høiby and Stu Ritchie seem to have unlimited potential for invention and for the unexpected, drawing on a wealth of influences and experiences.

The Grumpy Old Men will be proving they can gig with the best of them at the White Hart in Bratton Fleming on Friday.

The Blue Zoots may have a washboard fixation (they do their smalls during the interval) but they can still sock the blues to 'em and will also be proving it on Saturday at the lounge bar of Stowford Farm Meadow, Berry Down, near Combe Martin. All welcome.

Amy Newton and Kate Kerslake will be doing their best to liquefy the foundations of the Prince of Wales pub in Fore Street, Ilfracombe with their musical prowess on Saturday. If the walls are still standing, expect a damn good gig anyway.

Anyone wanting to strut their musical stuff or watch others do so can go along to Open Mike Night at Cook Island, Mullacott (near Ilfracombe,) tomorrow and every Thursday throughout autumn.

Mike, Clive and Jordan from the Average Blues Band provide a full pro sound system, including drums and keyboards and can even add backing or support to singers and players alike, as required. Anyone who wants to sing or play should get there for 8.30 pm to guarantee a time slot.

The Food Fighters are a lively and popular local band who receive rave reviews from the numerous venues they play at. On Friday the Red Barn at Woolacombe welcomes them back for another visit.

The Mariner's Arms at Braunton continues its Friday night trend for live music with an appearance by singer Gilly.

The White Lion has DJing most of the way this weekend, with DJ Benny Joy definitely appearing on the Saturday billing - and Friday too, we believe.

But on Sunday evening Amy Newton will be back hosting her regular Open Mic spot - get there early if you want a seat.

For a packed 12 hour marathon of live music, you could do worse than visit Piltonstock this Saturday. The venue is the Chichester Arms in Pilton, Barnstaple and between 11am-11pm some of North Devon's best bands will be performing.

Hollywood Prankster, Vampyrouss, Live Like Lions, The Alements, Jog on Robot, Deluded, Luna Cry and more will all be playing. Entry to the charity event, now in its third year is just a pound and proceeds will be divided between Pilton Church and the Devon Air Ambulance.

Tomorrow, Clayton's in Barnstaple hosts the Pete Canter Trio - an excellent jazz saxophonist and a band who put on a polished jazz show.

On Saturday, Barnstaple Liberal Club has Revival playing live, with plenty of classic tunes from the past to the present.

On Monday Sod 'em & Sing Karaoke is back in town at Sherry's Tavern.

Tonight (Wednesday) SSK is at Qube in Bideford and there's more to come tomorrow at Quigley's. On Sunday the Heavitree Arms is the venue.

Tomorrow the Tavern-in-the-Port, Bideford, hosts the monthly LBGT Night from 7pm. All are welcome.

More karaoke on Friday at the Swan Inn as the now-weekly Planit X returns. On Saturday The Food Fighters are in the house with their irrepressible sound.

Must be karaoke season, because there's more on Saturday with eX Factor Karaoke at the Anchor in Bideford. This is now a regular event every fortnight.

Out of the Blue will be playing live on Saturday at the Joiners Arms - another band who have impressed and are often asked back for more.

Hartland band Lazy will be at the Palladium Club on Friday with their brand of R&B style covers and on Saturday the venue welcomes back popular Cornish rockers Kernuyck, an original band who continue to win fans north of the Cornish border! On Tuesday of next week the Palladium hosts its weekly jam session.

Lunchtime jazz on Sunday at the Café du Parc in Bideford with the talented Tony Oreshko Trio entertaining diners.

Freddie Star (only one "r") will be entertaining at the Waterfront Inn, Westward Ho! on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the Oceanview Country Music Club has live music from 8.30pm with Kalibre at Braddicks Elizabethan.

Chris Ayliffe & the Girls will be getting all acoustic on Saturday at the George Hotel in South Molton as the monthly First Saturday Acoustic gets back into the groove from 8.30pm.
