MAD Jack and the Severn Bore is an exciting performance looking at the life of Colonel Jack Churchill - commando, longbowman and champion bagpipe player, but best known as the first man to surf the Severn Bore.
Known as “Mad Jack” he led his men into battle carrying a claybeg sword saying “any man who goes into battle without his sword is not properly dressed.”
Writer and actor John Bassett presents a show devoted to this remarkable man, covering a lifetime filled with adventure including escaping from concentration camps, riding a motorcycle across Burma and playing the bagpipes at the top of Vesuvius.
The performance is part of a series of events created by Spaniel in the Works for the Olympics entitled Forgotten Sporting Heroes of Gloucestershire, in partnership with Gloucestershire Archives and the Museum in the Park, Stroud and supported by the Arts Council.
It is showing at Gallery@QT on Friday at 7.45pm, Saturday at 1.30pm and 6.45pm.
