Mtiebi (translating as Morning Star or Enlighteners) is a ten strong ensemble (pictured above) from the heart of the Caucasian mountains in Georgia. Their huge repertoire of songs, music and dances has been collected over many years, from all parts of Georgia, and stretches back over centuries. Songs and music are at the heart of Georgian tradition - both sacred and secular - and were sung at village festivals, holidays and feasts but also at times of birth and death.Brought to North Devon by Beaford Arts, Mtiebi's performance gives a rare insight into what remains a living tradition: earthy, colourful, vibrant and joyful. They perform at: Atherington St Mary's Church on Thursday June 19, 7.30pm, (01769) 560572; and Parracombe Christ Church, Friday June 20, 7.30pm, (01598) 763325.
