jazz legends Guy Barker and Ian Shaw unite to open the Barnstaple Fringe at the Queen's Theatre in Barnstaple on Saturday May 31. Part of the North Devon Festival, Guy and Ian will give a musical and highly entertaining romp through their favourite film music. Guy's love of the filmic moment is partnered with Ian's musical harmonies to create all the drama, comedy and romance of the silver screen. Guy Barker makes a return visit to the Queen's following his jazz take on Mozart last November. He recently accompanied Sir Willard White on BBC1's Songs of Praise, and has worked with many of music's most celebrated names. He was a member of Clark Tracey's Quintet and recorded the soundtrack to the film The Talented Mr Ripley which saw him duet with actor Matt Damon. Ian Shaw has been described as "the best jazz vocalist we have". He won the Best Vocalist category at the 2007 BBC Jazz Awards, is regularly heard on BBC Radios 2, 3, and 4, and has appeared on Later... with Jools Holland, Top of the Pops and Pebble Mill. In 2002, Ian performed as the warm-up man/devil in Jerry Springer the Opera, a part created for him by writers Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas.Box office, (01271) 324242.
