The North Devon Festival kicks off in a celebratory style when two jazz legends, Guy Barker and Ian Shaw, unite to pay tribute to the music we all know and love from the movies, at the Queen's Theatre in Barnstaple on Saturday (May 31). Part of the Barnstaple Fringe, Guy and Ian will give an entertaining musical romp through their favourite film music. The pair celebrate the fabulous force that is 'cinema' and pay homage to the world of Chaplin, Bogart, Balloo and Bond. Guy's love of the filmic moment is partnered with Ian's musical harmonies to create all the drama, comedy and romance of the silver screen. Guy Barker makes a return visit to the Queen's following his jazz take on the works of Mozart last November. Guy has enjoyed a strong career working with such greats as Frank Sinatra, Cleo Laine, John Dankworth, and Mike Oldfield. He was a member of Clark Tracey's Quintet and recorded the soundtrack to the film The Talented Mr Ripley which saw him duet with actor Matt Damon. Ian Shaw has been described as 'The best jazz vocalist we have' and won the Best Vocalist category at the 2007 BBC Jazz Awards. He is regularly heard on BBC Radios 2, 3, and 4, and has appeared on Later... with Jools Holland.Box office (01271) 324242 ; website: www.northdevontheatres.org.uk
