RAPPING ghosts, plenty of songs and a miser who needs to change his ways are coming to Barnstaple from tomorrow (Thursday, December 2) until Saturday as Westward Ho! Youth Theatre brings a modern take to the classic Charles Dickens tale. Ebenezer a Rock Musical brings Mr Scrooge and the well loved characters of A Christmas Carol bang up to date in three shows running from tomorrow until Saturday at Grosvenor Church in Old Station Road. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30 each night, with a cast of around 35 members whose ages range from eight to 20. The Westward Ho! Youth Theatre celebrates its sixth year in February and traditionally stages a variety show at the end of the year, as well as a summer musical but this year it was decided to try for a December musical instead. It is the first time the group has appeared at the Grosvenor and the show promises an entertaining mix of music, dance and theatre. Anneli Talbot is the musical director, with music and lyrics by Malcolm Sircom, choreography by Lynne Malone and Colin Jones as stage producer. It will still follow the traditional story of the mean Ebenezer Scrooge, his down trodden employee Bob Crachitt, nephew Fred and a succession of ghostly Christmas visitors determined to make the miser change his ways before it is too late. Tickets are available by calling Sarah White on 07718 619642.
