Villagers urged to attend emergency meeting at Village Hall on Wednesday night.

THE villagers of Combe Martin have been urged to go along to an emergency public meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) if they wish to see a carnival next year.

The 7.30pm meeting at the Village Hall annex has been organised by former carnival chairman and committee member David Stephenson.

It follows the resignation of the previous committee after three years and an earlier public meeting which led to the August event being cancelled due to a lack of interest plus people unwilling to put themselves forward to form a new committee.

Mr Stephenson, who has chaired numerous carnival committees over the years said he was loath to sit back and watch the week long event die.

“I have talked to an awful lot of people in the past week and barring one, I found everybody wanting to see it continue,” he said.

“We want people to come along and air their views or offer ideas. We need to know where we stand with the carnival and what they would like to see happen.”

If no new committee is formed by Christmas the carnival funds will be given away to good causes.
