eight students from schools across the South West participated in the INSPIRE contemporary dance event at The Plough Arts Centre, Great Torrington, co-ordinated by Dance In Devon's Cathy Richards. The students, from Chulmleigh Community College, Okehampton Community College and Budehaven Sports College, were on Year 10 work experience as part of their placement. The students formed their own dance company and created an entirely new piece in the space of five days. With the help of young choreographer Luke Savage, who recently graduated from the Laban contemporary dance school in London, the students performed a slick act about knife crime. This topical piece was fittingly named SOS and contained dark yet cool, streetwise moves that had been created over the course of the week. Student Joe Munday commented: "There was nothing quite like it, while the rest of the country's year 10 pupils are busy bashing out cups of tea in an accountancy office, I'm here, working on an awesome dance.
