The town’s annual carnival is back on Thursday, August 23.

THE year’s Ilfracombe St John Ambulance Carnival is back on Thursday of next week (August 23).

Once again a colourful procession of floats and walkers will make its way from the swimming pool at Brimlands to the high Street and then the seafront.

The town always puts on an extra special walking group display, with many friends and families joined by local organisations for an inventive array of themes and costumes.

Entry is free and forms are available from Tinker Tailor Party Shop and Alan Jackson Shoe repairs in Ilfracombe High Street.

Judging takes place at Hillsborough car park and late entries are accepted up until judging begins at 6.30pm. All roads will be closed from at 7pm.

The parade starts at 7.30pm and follows the route of Hillsborough Road, into Portland Street, along the High Street and travelling down Wilder Road into St James place and finishes at Ropery Road.

Money raised from the carnival will be used by Ilfracombe St John Ambulance to support its volunteers who provide emergency medical aid at many public events and first aid training in the Ilfracombe Area.

The carnival princess for this year was chosen from members of the First Ilfracombe Brownie Pack, with Charlotte Mortimer-Wallace given the royal honour and Sophie Baddick, Frankie Filer and Jessica Langmead chosen as her attendants.
