Event is to ‘take a break’ for this year but it is hoped new organisers can bring it back for 2015.
THE popular Art Trek open studios event has been cancelled this year following cuts to funding.
North Devon Theatres has said the month long event would have to take a break in 2014 because of changes it was making to deal with the loss of funding.
Last year saw more than 60 North Devon artists from Lynmouth to Winkleigh open their doors to the public for the 10th anniversary year of the event.
North Devon Theatres said it would be supporting new organisers North Devon Arts, which hoped to secure funding to develop and relaunch the event in 2015.
North Devon Arts will also be producing an Art Trek leaflet highlighting the various visual art events taking across the area during June and July 2014.
Art Trek was part of the ‘cultural legacy’ of the North Devon Festival and was able to continue after the festival itself was also cancelled due to lack of funding for 2012.
“There’s an abundance of creative talent in North Devon and Art Trek is a great way to see or buy interesting artwork, watch demonstrations, take part in workshops and see more of the fantastic coast and countryside,” said Jo Lock, head of marketing at the Theatres.
“We’re so pleased that North Devon Arts are going to keep it alive and I’m looking forward to seeing how the event evolves from here.”
