It was a sad day for many on Saturday as the first girl in the running to be Dorothy Gale in Braunton Productions ' next show, The Wizard of Oz, was eliminated from the competition.North Devon's award-winning amateur dramatics society is still searching for its next leading lady to play Dorothy Gale in the hit musical at the Queen's Theatre in Barnstaple in July and the public have been busy voting in their hundreds to keep their favourite girl in the competition. On Saturday, Anna Hogan and Joan Slater, having received the fewest votes during the week, started the show with a sing-off of "Over the Rainbow." The production team unanimously chose Joan to go through to the next round, saying goodbye to Anna. The girls who are now still in the running to be the public's Dorothy are, Joan Slater from Bideford, Joss Wyre from Bideford, Kate Sloman from Barnstaple and Rebekah Lucas from Braunton. Throughout February, the four girls will continue to sing and act their socks off in a series of auditions, which will be filmed and broadcast on the Find Dorothy website, www.finddorothy.co.uk, where the public will vote to keep their favourite in the competition. The two girls with the fewest votes will have to do a "sing-off" where one girl each week will sadly leave the competition. The next live audition takes place from 3 - 4pm this Saturday at the Kingsley College Theatre in Bideford The entrance fee is £2.
