The 2022 North Devon Show is nearly upon us, with the event taking place at its usual location at Barton Farm, Umberleigh on Wednesday, August 3.

After a two-year Covid enforced absence there is keen anticipation, with a bumper crowd expected. Celebrating the region’s rural, agricultural and equestrian heritage, this year’s Show also features additional entertainment and activities, all geared at making it a special day out for families.

Show Secretary Theresa Soanes said: “We are thrilled that the Show is back and we’re counting down the days. You can tell from advance ticket sales and messages from the public that it’s been really missed by the North Devon community. A number of visiting tourists enjoy the event too, and this year we’ve make it as family friendly as possible, with extra entertainment laid on to accompany all the traditional events.”

The entertainment line-up includes a Circus, Fairground Rides, Strongman, BMX Display Team, Laser Clay pigeon shooting plus a Vintage Cars and Tractors. Also featuring this year is a Live Music Stage with a host of acts to keep people entertained throughout the day, plus a brand new ‘Food Village’ and Crafts and Gifts Marquee.

Theresa Soanes added: “The last two years has been challenging for everyone, and for much of that time social and hospitality activities have been limited. Once we knew we were back for 2022 we were determined to put on a Show everyone can enjoy. It will great to see those regular members of our farming and equestrian community who have supported the Show for many years, plus new entrants as well. It will also be great to see families, locals and tourists alike, who can see our rural heritage close up and enjoy all the entertainment we have laid on. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to get together and enjoy a fabulous day out.”

All the traditional Show events go ahead. include most of the usual livestock classes, plus Pig and Poultry displays and a Horticultural Show. There will be numerous Trade Stands, Equestrian events, Dog Shows and all the usual Main Ring activities.

Also new for 2022 is an agreement between the Show’s organisers and Stagecoach to allow FREE bus travel for anyone purchasing an advance ticket. Theresa Soanes said: “I’m so pleased we can offer this to everyone who buys a ticket in advance. Busses will go from Barnstaple, Bideford, Torrington and South Molton, plus a link from Umberleigh railway station too. It really encourages use of public transport and it allows you to be dropped off right at the entrance. It helps everyone do their bit for the environment, and save on carbon emissions.”

Advance tickets are still available from various outlets across the region - for details of where and how to purchase tickets see NorthDevonShow.com
