Test Match presentation to North Devon coach

CRICKET coach Jan Witheridge from West Buckland was recognised for outstanding services to grassroots cricket by Nick Knight at the first npower Test Match against Sri Lanka in Cardiff.

She was one of 13 coaches who met with Knight on pitch during lunch at the Test Match and were presented with a coaching certificate by the former England player and current cricket broadcaster as part of the Sky Sports ECB Coach Education Programme.

More than 100 coaches from across the county are being acknowledged by the programme’s reward and recognition scheme, which comprises of a series of on-pitch presentations throughout the summer by various cricket legends.

Jan manages and coaches North Devon Girls, Tarka Ladies and the district boys U15s in West Buckland. She is also the secretary of NDYCA and chairperson of Filleigh Juniors. Her side won the district girls U15s competition in 2010 and Tarka Ladies continue to go from strength to strength.

Following the presentation, she said: “Since the inception of Sky Sports and the ECB, women and girls cricket participation has gone through the roof. There are now far more opportunities for girls and women to develop through cricket and the programme is providing some great role models for women in sport.”
