Street Pastors ready for the streets of Braunton

Joseph Bulmer

THE Street Pastors of Braunton will be taking to the streets for the first time on Good Friday, April 22.

There are now 18 volunteers drawn from the churches of Braunton, who will work with a team of Prayer Partners.

A Commissioning Service for both groups will be held at 5pm in St Brannock’s Church, where they will be formally commissioned by the Ascension Trust, which oversees the national Street Pastors initiative.

After the service there will be a time for refreshments at St Brannock’s Rooms before all 18 Pastors will go out into the village enmasse for their first spell on the streets.

The following week they will be going out in teams of four but it was decided to make the first a special occasion.

Unlike larger towns where Street Pastors patrol into the early hours to look after late revellers, in Braunton it has been decided to focus on the earlier part of the night.

To suit the situation in the village, it was felt an approximate time of 7-11pm would be better, aimed at looking out for and befriending youngsters to make sure they stay safe.

All are welcome to join the special Commissioning Service on Good Friday.
