Ilfracombe Museum is inviting the community in for a fun packed free family friendly open day on Sunday July 4, between 11am and 4pm.
The museum is celebrating its Stay Curious project and wants to share with you all that is weird and wonderful in the Museum. Bring the whole family. Children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends are all welcome!
A spokesperson for Ilfracombe Museum said: “There are free goody bags to take away, and weird craft sessions to enjoy; make a two headed kitten or a crazy soft snake! See our fantastic new creepy crawly art installation, full of bugs and butterflies created by artist Mandi McCormack and pupils from Ilfracombe Junior School.
“Be astonished by our Curious Creature Specimens in a jar made by local young people. Bring your Nature Notebook and get it stamped; explore inside the museum and make notes about your favourite weird and wonderful things that you discover.â€
Visit the Butterfly Design exhibition at the Landmark Theatre showing beautiful butterflies created by Ilfracombe Academy students.
Don’t worry if you have not visited the museum before, friendly staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions and help you explore. There is disabled access and children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
Established on the seafront in 1932 by a former museum collector, Ilfracombe Museum is independently run and we welcome locals and tourists throughout the year.
The surprising range of exhibits and ‘hands-on journey of discovery’ is part of its unique charm. The museum’s staff and volunteers are especially proud of the strong relationship they have with local families and children and the museum provides a programme of interactive activity to explore its collections.
Entry to the museum is free, but must be pre-booked to manage numbers. To book a slot for July 4th go to the website, https://ilfracombe-museum.arttickets.org.uk
