BARNSTAPLE U14s came back from 17-5 down to pip Newton Abbot for a place in the Devon Cup third round.
The two sides met at the semi-final stage last season, with Barum winning a tight encounter 10-7. It was even closer this time around with Barum going through as the away side in a 17-all draw.
Barum scored first with a well-worked try rounded off by Barnie Meadowcroft, but Newton responded with two tries before the break and third afterwards.
Barum wouldn’t give up and as their pack got on top chances came along. A strong forward drive saw Andy Black score with most of his forward mates with him.
Two minutes from time Barum broke on the left, Nat Bayet bust a tackle and off-loaded to Sam Roberts, who sprinted under the posts for Meadowcroft to convert.

TORRINGTON U15s are out of the Motor & Direct Insurance Devon Cup after going down 35-0 to Torquay.
Torquay were ahead after five minutes and by half time the lead had opened out to 21-0. Torrie threw the ball around without making a breakthrough and also missed a penalty.
The beginning of the second half almost mirrored the first with the visitors securing an early try. Torrie put in some lovely tackles and runs, especially from Peter White, Callum Burton, Danny Cannon and Tim Parkinson, but it wasn’t enough to prevent one last Torquay try.
Torrie put on a fierce attack near time. With heavy drives from Sam Freemantle, Harry Stark and Blaize Coysh, they got within a whisker of securing points.
Man of the Match went to Shane Roach. Golden Hammer was awarded to Peter White and a club tie was given to Chephren Marchant for outstanding play.
