Yarnscombe Short Mat Bowling Club emphasised its position as leading club in the North Devon and North Cornwall federation area by winning the final match of the season, the Tony Stephens Knockout final, by 14 shots from Merton.

Reaching the final was a notable achievement for the Division 3 Merton team, which beat three Division 1 teams and a Division 2 team on the way.

Yarnscombe had already this season won Division 1 of the evening league by 12 ½ points as well as winning the Alan Wright Memorial Trophy tens competition in a tight final against Shebbear.

A Yarnscombe rink skipped by Jay Shaw had also squeezed home as winners of the Mary Kent Triples on an extra deciding end.
