Not many people can say theyve met a World Cup winner, let alone been trained by one. But youngsters from Carol Anne Netball Club have that bragging right, after Australian World Cup winner Julie Corletto ran training sessions at the club last week. Corletto, who retired last year after winning her third World Cup with Australia Diamonds, put the clubs U11, U12 and U14 girls through their paces with a series of drills focused on ball skills and footwork. She then held a question and answer session with the girls before donning her Australia tracksuit and gold medal for photos and autographs. Carol Anne coach Tessa Hutton said: Its such a rarity and were really privileged. Its not something that comes up very often so when we had the opportunity we grabbed it with both hands. The girls were just completely in awe of her. They were really excited by it and it is such a good experience for them. Corletto, who returns to Carol Anne to coach the senior players this evening, said: To put a smile on the girls faces and to see them active is just something I really enjoy. I still love the game even though Im retired, so its my way of giving back. Corletto played in goal defence for the Australia Diamonds world cup winning campaign last year, and played domestically for the NSW Swifts. She is currently part of Sky Sports Vitality Netball Superleague coverage.
