BARNSTAPLE Colts made a winning start to the season when they won 20-14 at Sidmouth.

Tony Williamsson touched down after five minutes, but instead of capitalising on their early good fortune Barum let Sidmouth back into the game.

Midway through the half Barum were 14-5 down and they had to wait until just before the break to make inroads into the deficit.

A gap opened for Rob Elliott to run trough and Pat Sanders conversion left just two points in it.

Josh Davie, held up over the line in the first half, went all the way in the second to put Barnstaple ahead at 17-12.
