BRADWORTHY teenager Will Pepworth has been named as 2008 Young Sailor of the Year for the South West region by the Royal Yachting Association. The award is made to inspiring young sailors who have made a major impact on youth sailing during the year and Will was recognised for his bravery, determination and professionalism in helping others to enjoy watersports. In addition to receiving the trophy, 17-year-old Will will be treated to a VIP day at the London Boat Show in January and he also goes forward with other regional winners to the finals of the national Young Sailor of the Year Award. Will first got involved with watersports through the junior club at Tamar when he was eight years old. He has been windsurfing, sailing and canoeing there ever since and is a member of the RYA T15 windsurfing club. For the past three years he has been studying towards watersports qualifications.Currently studying at Budehaven Secondary School, Will ran the South West Lakes Trust Watersports Centre at Upper Tamar Lake for the 2008 season during his summer holiday. South West Lakes Trust Central Area Manager Angie Martelli said: "Will has shown outstanding dedication to the Trust . He has helped the new junior club members to learn sailing and windsurfing skills and in the process has gone on to become an instructor himself. He has shown professionalism and great strength of character over the past 12 months, when faced with personal loss in his family life."Will is a fantastic role model for our aspiring juniors and I was very happy and proud when the RYA chose him for this award.
