BIDEFORD Blues secured the West of England Under 16 Ladies Quad championship at Torquay Regatta.

The crew of Hannah and Jessica Myers, Alice Jackson and Annie Cook, with cox Zoe Robertson, won their race in great style from Plymouth by three lengths. This puts them eight points clear in the race for the WEARA title from Totnes, who failed to gain any points at Torquay.

Alice Jackson went out again in the Under 16s singles, but after leading for the main part of the race she steered off course and failed to correct herself enough for the finish line, just losing out to a sculler from Exeter.

The Men's Junior 16 Quad were out next, hoping to keep up with the winning girls, but just lost out, coming in second.

Last out was Megan Harty and Annie Cook in the Under 16 Double Sculls. With conditions deteriorating, the girls had a hard race with the Exeter crew, the lead changing hands down the course. But when closing in at the finish they hit some bad wash and lost a scull, giving the advantage to Exeter, who went on to win by two lengths.
