AN Olympic-themed event to introduce young people to the exciting sport of cycling is taking place in Swimbridge on Saturday, not Sunday as previously published and for which we apologise.
The Taw Velo cycle club is hosting Go-Ride Games 2012 at the village playing field from 2pm, with all youngsters aged under 16 invited.
Riders will be provided with a short coaching session, before joining an action-packed programme of racing in the afternoon to put their new-found skills to the test.
It is part of a series of nationwide Go-Ride Games events co-ordinated by British Cycling this summer to tap Olympic fever and use the legacy of London 2012 to inspire would-be cyclists.
Club coach David Luggar said they hoped plenty of young riders fired up by the success of Team GB would come along on the day.
“We think these grassroots races are absolutely crucial if we are to make sure the London Games leaves a lasting legacy through inspiring young people to take up sport,” he said.
“All newcomers are welcome to the club event and we look forward to giving as many people a taste of cycling as possible.”
Anyone who would like to take part is invited to bring a bicycle and a helmet to Swimbridge Jubilee Village Hall at 2pm on Sunday and sign up. Entry is £2 for the session. There will be prizes and giveaways on offer.
