TORRIDGESIDE Swimming Club members competed well against strong opposition in the second round of the National Swimming League competition at Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday.The club enjoyed four individual race wins. Hannah Talmage gained two victories, in the girls' 11years and under 50metres backstroke and butterfly.Rebekah Shapland won the ladies' open 100m backstroke and Daniella Jewell won the girls' 11 and under 50m breaststrokeThe girls' 11 and under 4x50m medley relay team of Alice Roulstone, Daniella Jewell, Hannah Talmage and Anne Daniel also took first place.Club members also recorded 15 personal best times.Final result: 1, Newton Abbot (222 points); 2, Clevedon (202 points); 3, Christchurch & New Milton (195 points); 4, Bristol Central (173 points); 5, Torridgeside (129 points); and Sailsbury (127 points). The 'victory' over Sailsbury gives Torridgeside hope going into the final gala in December that they can stay out of the bottom three in the division and avoid relegation.In round three of the club championships the previous weeked 57 Torridgeside swimmers recorded 96 personal best times. Sam Petty set two new club records, in the men's 16yrs 50m butterfly and 200m butterfly and Daniel Shapland set a new best in the men's 17yrs plus 200m butterfly.
