THE second annual Bridge Gig Race will take place on the River Torridge this Saturday.Organised by the Appledore Pilot Gig Club and supported by Barnstaple Link Rotary Club, they event promises to be spectacular, with nine racing gigs and crews setting of from the old Bideford Bridge at 10.30am.They will race from Bideford to the Barnstaple new bridge, a distance of some eight miles.Onlookers will find prime viewing spots along the way, including Appledore Quay, Fremington Quay, Heanton and the Tarka Trail. This year the finish can also be seen from the new Barnstaple downstream bridge. When they arrive in Barnstaple the gigs will be turned around for a ladies race in the reverse direction, from the Barnstaple bridge back to Appledore.
