The North Devon Table Tennis League season was rounded off this week with the hardbat and Division two doubles competitions.

Hardbat competitors used bats from the 1950s and a 38mm ball instead of the modern 40mm.

Sue Overton became the first woman to take the title since the competition’s inception in 1994.

Alan Briggs and Derek Preston contested the first semi final, and Sue Overton and Barry Pitts the other. Preston and Overton both won in two straight sets, with Sue winning the final 11-9, 13-11.

The Division two doubles competition was played as a Round Robin.

Robin Gale and Rod Thomas ran out comprehensive winners with 11 points.

Runners-up for the second year were Sue Overton and Tony Whatley, four points further back.
