Twelve North Devon short mat bowls teams played in the the North Devon and North Cornwall Federation’s Chris Oke Memorial Tournament.
After a total of 30 games the Torrington A Team of Roy Kent, Michael Jury, John Piper and Cheryl Cargill edged out the Woolsery team of John Crossman, Gordon Leonard, Sally O’Neill and Geoff Cooke. Both teams had eight points, but Torrington won the trophy having the advantage of 26 shots to Woolsery’s 11.
Beaford’s Ellen Hawley, Margaret Denham, Gordon Denham and Francis Hawley took third place, only one point behind the top two.
Players from the Kingsley Indoor Bowling Club in Westward Ho! have made early progress in three national competitions.
Andy Presdee and John Gayton won through the opening round of the Over 60s national Pairs competition, coming back from 8-13 down to beat their Exonia Club opponents 18-17 on the final end.
The pair also progressed in the National Pairs, playing on their home rinks againstanother Exonia pair, Andy Milford and Chris Bond, and this time winning through by a comfortable 19-6.
Kingsley ladies Jenny Rhodes, Celia Colwill and Jeanette Symons were 21-9 winners in their opening National Two Wood Tripoles competition against Honiton opponents.
